Commodore 64 RAM Expansion Units:
This page is a Work In Progress. Primarily because I need to look at my references to make sure the information I provide, about addresses and HW commands, is accurate.
In this page I will be talking a little bit about the RAM Expansion units available for the C64, C128, C16, and VIC-20.
Bank RAM : Popular Homebrew REU.
The Bank RAM cartridges were mostly all compatible with each other, having a single byte address to select the bank to use and switching out a 4KB bank of RAM from up to 1024KB of RAM, that is 1MB. Most of these had at least 256KB, as they became popular in about 1986.
I will be getting into these, and when there DMA comes in handy as well. The REUs from Commodore were a bit strange in that they were DMA based and did not map there RAM into the system memory map. Though there DMA was quite fast, and could be used for some tricks.
For those that remember the old days;
