Commodore 8-bit Systems

The commodore 64 and Commodore 128 are very well known and still used Comodore 8-bit computers. Many people that started with them in the 1980s still use them today, myself included. On top of these two I also used the Commodore VIC-20 and the Comodore 16. I still use the Commodore 128 for both fun and productivity applications, including writing software.

The Commodore 128 has the advantage of being able to run in a Commodore 64 compatibility mode. As there are probably 4 times as many native C64 titles as there are C128 titles this is an advantage when gaming, or just having fun. Before the Raspberry Pi the Commodore 64 had held the record for the single best selling computer in history.

There are a huge number of us that still to this day use our Commodore 64 and 128 computers. And there are a good number of us that still program on them. So there is new software for these computers, that is released every year.

There are also a number of newer users of these computers. Some of the younger generations are picking them up, and programming on them. When it comes to the C64 and C128 the saying "8-bit forever" definitely holds true. There are also projects to make new C64 compatible computers, including one that is producing Commodore 65 compatibles.
